Library Basics: Scan

A quick overview of the Library: The physical space, off-campus resources, research tips, and more

Scan

  • Scanners are available near the Reserve Desk on the Library's lower level and in the Law Reference section on the upper level.

  • Scanned files can be saved to a USB drive, Google Drive, or Dropbox. Additionally, files can be emailed or printed.

  • Please note that students may use the scanners for limited periods when the Library is busy.

  • Scanning is free.

  • Individuals should not scan or copy an entire book, as this constitutes a copyright infringement. For more information on copyright compliance, please refer to the CUNY Office of Library Services page on Fair Use and Copyright.

Full-Text Searchable PDFs

To make scanned PDFs full-text searchable using OCR:

  1. Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat
  2. Go to 'Recognize Text' and select 'In This File.'

This enables text-to-speech (TTS) software to read the scanned content.
