Welcome to the Lloyd Sealy Library subject guide on the topic of World War One and World War Two. 2014 marks the one hundredth anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War, then called "the Great War" or "The War to End All Wars". Everyone involved expected the conflict to be over in a couple of months. Instead it lasted for four long years and changed the shape of history, leaving a wrecked continent and ruined empires in its wake. Twenty years after the first world war, the Second World War broke out. Of all the conflicts fought in the 20th century, the second world war is the one that effectively built the world we live in today. If you are interested in learning more about either conflict, the library has a variety of resources available.
