Homegoing (2016) by Yaa Gyasi: Follows the fates of an Asante woman’s descendants from the mid-18th century to the present, from Ghana to the US, one strand of the diaspora.


The Cutting Season (2012) by Attica Locke: This is a murder mystery, which also ties in an unsolved mystery of several generations ago.  Both mysteries address the legacy of slavery, and how black people struggle to make sense of their past and heritage, especially in the context of white power structures.
