First Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment at the Batlle of Gettysburg by Don Troiani.
Welcome to the Lloyd Sealy Library subject guide on the topic of the American Civil War and Reconstruction. One of the most powerful events in American history, the Civil War (1861-1865) pitted brother against brother in a conflict that still influences the nation to this day. Reconstruction (1865-1877) meanwhile was the period immediately following the Civil War, when the federal government occupied the South and set conditions that would lead to the readmission of the southern states into the Union. It was also a period when the country as a whole struggled over the question of civil rights for the newly freed African American population. If you are interested in learning more about either period, the library has a variety of resources available.
