Library Databases

When searching for articles it is preferable to go directly to the Library Databases rather than utilizing OneSearch. Once you select your database opt for "Advanced Search". Remember to limit your results to full text and scholarly/peer-reviewed articles by checking boxes within the database. You may need to try different key word combinations for better results.

Access to articles from magazines and peer-reviewed journals, as well as books, conference papers and proceedings, and educational reports from almost all academic areas of study.
Amnesty International Library
Includes reports, articles, newswires, and press releases about human rights issues from around the world. Includes material in Spanish.
CIAO (Columbia International Affairs Online)
Comprehensive source for theory and research in foreign affairs; includes working papers from university research institutes and NGOs, foundation-funded research projects, and conference proceedings.
Country Studies
These books from the Library of Congress provide good background information on all the nations of Latin America, covering the areas of politics, economics, history, social history, and national security systems. (Some of these articles have not been updated.)
Criminal Justice Abstracts with Fulltext
Contains more than 200,000 records with links to scholarly articles and book chapters focusing on criminology, criminal justice, forensic sciences, probation and parole.
Criminal Justice Periodical Index
Comprehensive database of U.S. and international criminal justice journals covering criminology, criminal justice, law enforcement, corrections and rehabilitation.
Ethnic Newswatch
Provides access to more than 200 newspapers, magazines and journals of Hispanic American, African American, Caribbean and other ethnic presses from 1990 to the present. Includes material in Spanish.
Gale eBooks (Gale Virtual Reference)
Hundreds of specialized encyclopedias, dictionaries, biographical directories and other reference books in the subject fields of criminal justice, economics, history, literature, psychology, religion, science, world cultures, and more.
JSTOR
A comprehensive database which provides access to academic journals and primary sources from many different subject areas such as Latin American studies, history, anthropology, economics, political science, literature, religion and the arts. Coverage is from the earliest issue of each journal to a few years before the present.
Nexis Uni (formerly LexisNexis Academic)
A comprehensive resource for legal research, U.S. company information, and news from newspapers, newswires, magazines, blog and web publications from around the world from 1980 to the present. Includes access to Spanish-language sources.
MLA International Bibliography
Provides citations for journal articles, books, and dissertations covering language, literature, folklore, linguistics, literary theory and criticism, and the dramatic arts from 1921 to the present.
Sage Sociology Full Text Collection
Searchable collection of Sage Journals in social structure, inequality, social change, and social problems published by Sage. Coverage from 1952 to the present.

An excellent resource for academic journal articles, newsfeeds, primary source material, historical documents, maps, and audio & video. (Please note that our subscription to this database is no longer being updated as of 2017.)
